Professor Yugang Bai attended Nanjing University as an undergraduate in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China. After obtaining his B.S. in Chemistry on 2009, he moved to Champaign, Illinois (USA) and joined Prof. Jianjun Cheng’s group in Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He moved back to chemistry and joined Prof. Steven C. Zimmerman’s laboratory in 2011 in Department of Chemistry on the same campus, and obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2015. He stayed as a postdoctoral researcher in the same lab before he finally moved back to China and joined the ICBN faculty at Hunan University in 2017. Professor Bai’s research interests are in bioorganic, synthetic organic, and polymer chemistry.
Prof. Bai’s major research interests are the synthesis and applications of various polymeric materials, including those artificial polymers from scratch, and modified/functionalized natural polymers such as polysaccharides, polypeptides and polynucleotides (nucleic acids). Outside the lab, he is a landscape photographer and a computer enthusiast, running a personal photo album website at here.
